THE STUDIO
In Hong Kong,Design Takes Shape
I’m Ethan. During my doctoral studies in Design at Macau University of Science and Technology, my primary research focus has been cultural heritage conservation. Much of my inspiration therefore comes from traditional Chinese culture, intangible cultural heritage, and Eastern aesthetics. I also look to the forms and proportions of classic furniture to explore new possibilities in design.
The Hong Kong studio is where Uminora’s design and material research begins. Here, I focus on resin color, transparency, and the ways different cultural elements can be expressed through the material, allowing early ideas to gradually evolve into a clear and distinctive design language.
I hope tradition is not simply replicated, but reintroduced into everyday spaces in a lighter, more contemporary way.
THE FACTORY
In Quanzhou,Furniture Takes Shape
The Hong Kong studio is responsible for design and experimentation, while the Quanzhou factory turns these ideas into physical form.
Bringing each design into the form of finished furniture relies on our family-owned woodworking factory in Quanzhou.
Within approximately 2,000 m² of production space, every piece is gradually brought to life—from timber selection and shaping to sanding and final assembly.
